Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte is looking to make things rough for Alexander Povetkin in the very first round of their upcoming rematch.

The bout, which has the WBC's interim-heavyweight title at stake, will take place on Saturday night from Gibraltar.

Back in August of last year, at Matchroom's Fight Camp in Brentwood, Povetkin pulled off a sensational fifth round knockout of Whyte.

The Russian veteran was dropped twice in the fourth, but he knocked Whyte out cold with a vicious uppercut in the fifth.

Whyte would then exercise an immediate rematch clause.

It was a crushing loss for the British boxer, as he entered the ring as the WBC's mandatory challenger and interim-champion for the sanctioning body.

The second fight was postponed several times before Saturday's date and location was finalized.

According to Whyte, he never connected flush, with full power, on Povetkin.

He promised to land more meaningful punches when he faces Povetkin for a second time.

"He's a top fighter. He had 200-odd amateur fights, winning everything, he has beaten top fighters," Whyte told Sky Sports.

"But I'm coming for war on Saturday night. I'm coming to put the hurt on him as soon as possible. I'm coming to do damage. Last time, I didn't hit him properly. They were glancing punches. If I land properly on any heavyweight I can destroy somebody.

"I can knock out any man on this planet. I carry power in both hands. You've seen me knock out guys that don't usually get knocked out. Povetkin is tough and resilient but also very dangerous. I know what I need to do."

The winner of the rematch would inch closer to a world title shot. Tyson Fury is currently the WBC's world champion.
