Welsh boxing legend Colin Jones has told Enzo Maccarinelli to think carefully before deciding on his next move.  Jones, who won the British, Commonwealth, and European light-welterweight titles, told thisissouthwales that Enzo must look to himself before deciding whether or not to continue his boxing career.

Enzo lost to Russia’s Denis Lebedev at the weekend: the big Welshman is 28, has been stopped three times in his last four fights, no longer holds a title, and is staring into the precipice of retirement.  Jones, though, feels that Enzo should ask himself if he still loves the sport, and then make a final decision.

“You can talk to your family and Frank Warren too, but Enzo needs to get the real answer from his body and mind,” explained Jones.  “When I stopped fighting I was just 25, but I had fallen out of love with the sport.  I tried to get straight back in the gym to motivate me and get those special feelings going, but they weren't there.  Enzo has to be honest with himself and decide whether he has that feeling any more.

“It is not something you can cheat or avoid.  If the fire is not burning, then don't continue fighting,” continued Jones.  “It's a sad story, but that's boxing.  One moment you are champion, the next you are scrapping for your career.”
