Highly respected veteran trainer Ulli Wegner, who worked with many world champions in his long career, was very disappointed with last Saturday's heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko.
Fury shocked the world with a twelve round unanimous decision over Klitschko to pick up the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight titles.
Wegner is not upset with the outcome. He is upset with the way Fury pulled off his victory and the lack of action in the ring. Neither fighter threw or landed a lot of punches in the contest.
Klistchko was severely inactive. Wegner is unable to understand why Fury wasted certain moments by clowning around instead of taking the fight to Klitschko. The veteran coach was furious with some of Fury's antics in the ring.
"The fight became a complete disappointment. Not because of the defeat Klitschko suffered, but because of how it happened. Fury treated the fight like it was a circus. He hid his hands behind his back, made jokes at Wladimir - instead of beating [Wladimir up]. It's a shame, not only for Wladimir, but for the entire boxing world," Wegner said.
"And the worst thing about it - that's what Fury did to win four championship belts in this sport. The way he behaves in the ring, it's like a comedian, and he boxes like one as well. I've never seen such a weak title clash."
