The president of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), Francisco Valcarcel, is not on board with the idea of having a mid-point scoring system for future fights.
During a recent meeting in Mexico between the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Association (WBA) - the Presidents of the three sanctioning bodies were in agreement to test the idea of a mid-point (9.5, 8.5, etc.) scoring system on non-championships fights. The WBA has used such a system in overseas events.
"The idea of using mid-points instead of a must 10 system is a very bad idea. It lends itself to manipulation and interference. The system of granting mid-points has been used in Argentina and it has not improved things one iota," Varcacel said. "What really improves boxing are honest and qualified officials and directors."
