A high-ranking officer of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) is scheduled to arrive on Monday in Manila in preparation for the second title defense of Asia Pacific flyweight champion Rexon Flores.
The Hawaiian of Filipino decent Leon Panoncillo, chairman of WBO Asia Pacific, is due from Bangkok, Thailand to oversee the preparation of promoter Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr’s staging of Flores defense of regional title on April 21 in Bacoor, Cavite.
The 5-foot-4 Filipino champ, who is newly installed as the world No. 1 by the WBO, will put his title against top ranked and mandatory challenger Terdkiet Jundaeng (7-0, 5 KOs) of Thailand in the main event of the 8-fight card at the former Senator Ramon Revilla’s Cavite Coliseum.
Flores, who trains under former two-time world flyweight champ Erbito Salavarria in Elorde’s gym in Paranaque’s St. Rita Village, has made one title defense in expense of durable Alwi Alhabsy of Indonesia on May 14, 2005 after the Cadiz-native fighter took the vacant regional title with a unanimous decision win over previously undefeated Aree Phosuwangym of Thailand in July of 2004 in Manila.
Flores has a menacing 15-2-4 record, with 8 coming by way of knockout. The Flores-Jundaeng confrontation has been previously set in Baguio City and was postponed several times before Elorde finally made the deal done with Revilla to host the world-class boxing event.
