During this ceremony the WBO will award the honoree a special WBO World Diamond Championship Belt. This memorial event will be held at the Legado Golf Course in Guayama, Puerto Rico on January 23, 2018.

The commencement of the year promises to be a resplendent one for the island of Puerto Rico and the World Boxing Organization.

To attest such, on January 4, 2018 a special ceremony was held in the city of Ponce, where renowned boxing referee now retired, and current WBO Executive Committee Third Vice President Gino Rodríguez, father of celebrated TV actress Gina Rodríguez, and founder of the “We Will Foundation” in conjunction with Christian Leyva, also a family relative of the WBO Executive Member, representing the “Teamsters” Union from California, USA, donated $50,000.00 dollars to the non-profit humanitarian institution Centros Sor Isolina Ferré. This contribution was in benefit of all children, youngsters and their families affected by hurricane Maria. “This came as such a surprise”, said Director Sister Mildred who gratefully received the donation on behalf of Gino Rodríguez.

For decades the World Boxing Organization has collaborated with the humanitarian institution through numerous monetary donations, contributions,
gifts, toys and other resourceful materials for the children, youngsters and their respective communities.

On October 8, 2017 WBO President Francisco Valcárcel, Esq. and WBO Treasurer Adolfo Flores on behalf of the boxing organization, donated $25,000.00 dollars to the above-mentioned entity for basic supplies and necessities such as water, food, and power generators due to the aftermath of the aforementioned hurricane. These philanthropic endeavors are a testament of the WBO’s commitment with Puerto Rico and underserved communities.

The WBO Kids Drug Free Program continues its successful mission as WBO President Francisco Valcárcel, Esq. travels to numerous destinations promoting
