TOP boxing patron Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde Jr, in the Philippines, is presenting a boxing show on October 30 . The card will have the important non-title fight of World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific flyweight king Rexon Flores and Filipina boxer Mel Braguda against separate foes on October 30 at the Elorde Sports Center’s Grand Flash Ballroom in Parañaque City.
After two years of training at Elorde Gym, Braguda will see action in real fight for the first time when she takes on Ding Jin, a former multi-medallist in amateur boxing from Hubei, China in the schedule fight at 120-pound limit.
The 5-foot-4 Braguda, a well-to-do wife of an American resident at Ayala-Alabang in Muntinlupa City, makes his ring debut weighted more than 180-lb when she initially went in boxing regimen late 2003 until she has trimmed down more than 60 pounds and at the same time honed her skills.
“Braguda will become the first Filipina to fight a Chinese woman pro-boxer, who incidentally becomes the first foreign lady to make a ring appearance in Southeast Asia,” said Elorde.
The 21-year old Jin isn’t a melon. She has a 25-5 win-loss records with 9 knockouts as amateur and was a former two-division Chinese national champion at 54 and 57 kilograms and won the a bronze medal in the 2003 Asian Women's Boxing Championship before turning in the paid ranks this year.
The WBO world No. 4 ranked Flores may be two or three fights away from a potential bout with WBO flyweight king Omar "El Huracán" Narvaez of Argentina will face veteran compatriot Acasio Simbajon in a rematch of their second round technical draw on August 27 at the stated air-conditioned venue.
Their first bout declared a draw after Simbajon suffered two-inch cut above his head from accidental headbutt that floored Flores.
The card will be Elorde’s second-straight night installation as his free-to-public “Eastern Brawl” card which headlines another Chinese prizefighter Zhi Lin Xia against local hopeful Carlito Brosas for the World Boxing Empire (WBE) Asia Pacific welterweight title at the Mandaluyong Sports Complex in Mandaluyong City takes place on Oct. 29.
