The World Boxing Council will launch their drug testing program by February of next year, according to an announcement at the WBC's 53rd Convention in Kunming, China.

The program will be a joint effort between the WBC and VADA (Voluntary Anti Drugs Association), with the goal of cleaning up the sport and helping eradicate the use of performance enhancing drugs.

He revealed that any fighter ranked in the top ten of any division will be called upon to comply with unannounced random testing, in or out of completion.

The individuals who will work as collectors of the required testing samples will be trained in Las Vegas.

The penalties [for fighters who fail tests] will be determined by the WBC, with proposed one, two and four year bans.

Dr. Paul Wallace, the Chairman of the WBC's  Medical Advisory Board, stressed that "we need to be the example at the top."
