The World Boxing Council unanimously approved the reduction from 17 to 13 weight categories in female boxing, after a thorough review of this matter by the Medical Committee.

Female boxers have been found to compete in many different divisions, sacrificing or giving advantage to their opponents in many fights.

The following are the definite 13 weight divisions approved during the 43rd Annual World Convention of the WBC in Spain:

Heavyweight - Over 175 pounds (79.379 kilograms) with no upper limit

Light Heavyweight - 175, 79.379

Middleweight - 160, 72.575

Welterweight - 147, 66.678

Lightweight - 135, 61.235

Super Featherweight - 130, 58.967

Featherweight - 126, 57.153

Super Bantamweight - 122, 55.338

Bantamweight - 118, 53.524

Super Flyweight - 115, 52.163

Flyweight - 112, 50.802

Light Flyweight - 108, 48.988

Strawweight - 105, 47.727

Many other actions will be starting immediately to make female boxing safer and better.
