The Federations of the WBC and promoters who are loyal to it have pledged more than $50,000 dollars for Magomed Abdusalamov, who recently suffered a stroke and is still in an induced coma after Saturday's fight with Mike Perez.
Heavyweight Magomed (18-1, 18 KO's) suffered a blood clot on the brain, following a slugfest in Madison Square Garden, in which he also broke his hand and his nose, before losing a unanimous decison.
At the World Boxing Council Convention in Bangkok, Thailand, WBC Executive Secretary Mauricio Sulaiman focused on the plight of Magomed, as the top priority of business on the agenda.
Federation after Federation pledged money which was more than matched by promoters. Sampson Lewkowicz and Lou DiBella have started a fund for their striken fighter. Sampson said: "Thank you and God bless you." Mauricio said: "We are hopeful and praying for Magomed."
Magomed is in Roosevelt Hospital in New York.·
