Given the urgency for many boxer to earn income, in the next few days the World Boxing Council (WBC) will present a protocol for staging functions behind closed doors and another set of guidelines for the moment when gyms are allowed to be open.

The head of the organization, Mauricio Sulaimán, said that given the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire sport must work together and be ready when activity is allowed to resume.

"The WBC is preparing a protocol that will be ready in a couple of days, which can serve as a guide to boxing commissions to open gyms when the signal to open them occurs. We must maximize the care of everything," said Sulaimán.

Given the possibility of performing boxing functions behind closed doors in the coming weeks, Sulaiman added that there must be a tight protocol, because if these evenings are carried out, they must take the greatest care in the current situation.

"We also have a very advanced other for the development of boxing functions behind closed doors during the problem (pandemic), which is at the moment, lasting more than a month, but to do something it must be with absolute care," Sulaiman said.

In addition to testing boxers to rule out infection of the coronavirus and keep them in one place for a period of one month, he said they should be prepared to fight by the time the parties are authorized to do so.

"I feel that we should get to work right now, because if tomorrow a promoter decides to stage a boxing function and the law allows it, the commissions must be prepared to sanction the event, but with all of the necessary security measures in place,"Sulaiman said.
