Representatives from the World Boxing Council (WBC) plan to attend a press conference today for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, in efforts to obtain further details regarding a reported fight turned ugly between the current 154 lb champion and Ulises “Archie” Solis, Boxingscene.com was informed Wednesday morning.

As reported on Tuesday evening, an alleged altercation took place between Alvarez and Solis - who represents the International Boxing Federation (IBF) at 108 lb – at a local running ground in Guadalajara, Mexico where both were training for upcoming fights. Solis claims that he was approached by Alvarez and then subsequently attacked.

Alvarez has vehemently denied his involvement in the incident, other than acknowledging that he was present.

Should the matter reach a court of law and be ruled that he is held accountable, Alvarez is in danger of being stripped as WBC 154 lb champion in accordance with rule 1.25 (C), which states as follows:

“In the event that the holder of a WBC title is convicted and imprisoned for a crime involving moral turpitude, the WBC Board of Governors shall declare the champion's title vacated and the procedure to fill the vacant title is set out in these Rules and Regulations.”

The WBC is taking the matter very seriously, but at the moment treating it as rumor pending further confirmation. But that’s not to be confused with any favoritism being shown, as is often suggested to be the case between the Mexico-based sanctioning body and the home-grown star.

“We don’t have confirmation on the extent of his involvement, other than what we’ve read in the media,” WBC Secretary General Mauricio Sulaiman. “Our rules are very clear in regards to conduct of a champion. If there is a legal ruling in a court of law that finds him guilty, we will follow our rules to the letter.”

Alvarez is currently training for a November 26 title defense in Mexico against former welterweight champion Kermit Cintron, which will be televised live on HBO as the main leg of a split-site tripleheader.
