From WBC President Jose Sulaiman:

“The WBC presented, on behalf of IPRO – International Professional Ring Officials - a check for 26,206.30 pesos to the widow of boxer Martin Sanchez, who died on July 2 after fighting in Las Vegas.

“Prior to that the WBC, in coordination with Guilty Promotions, handled the repatriation of the body of Martin Sanchez to give a sanctity burial.

“Also, the WBC presented to Martin’s widow and little son $3,500 (US) from Guilty Promotions and $3,500 (US) from the WBC.

“Guilty Promotions has held a charity event and will present another check in the near future, and is confirming a payment of life insurance coverage to the family of Martin Sanchez, as well.

“The WBC established 15 years ago a committee to review the happenings in fatal or serious accidents in the ring.

“This committee is chaired by Dr. Paul Wallace from California, and the objective is to find out happenings of the boxers in their private lives, their home habits, their gymnasium actions and training, as well as the different weights in the periods and the events before, during, and after the fights, with the exclusive objective of finding the reasons that could have produced the fatal accidents in boxing, and to be able in the future to try to make recommendations to improve the quality of the sport and life of boxers as a matter of safety.

“Many of the different safety rules that the WBC has brought into boxing are based on those reviews in the lives and actions of boxers through the years, at least for the last quarter century.”
