During a courtesy visit to Marca magazine in Spain, by the WBA President Gilberto Mendoza and Vice President Gilberto Jesús Mendoza, they made it clear that they are working in towards spreading boxing to all continents.
President Mendoza discussed the meetings and projects between the WBA, WBC and IBF: "the cooperative relationship between the organizations is unique. We are trying to create tournaments where the champions of each organization compete to have the unique champion as we want".
He pointed out that "cooperation is very important in pursue of a future with greater clarity for professional boxing".
Mendoza also referred to the attempts being made by the International Amateur Boxing Association to control boxing.
"The threat is making us get together. AIBA comes with strength, it manages the national federations, receives money from them, from their governments and also they organize the Olympic Games, which is essential for the athlete."
Gilberto Jesús Mendoza referred to a possible clash between WBA/WBC unified champion Floyd Mayweather and WBO champion Manny Pacquiao, and reminded that it would be the first attempt of the Filipino to win the pioneer organization's championship belt:
"The public needs Mayweather-Pacquiao", and continues "the North American is running out of opponents and it seems he has two bouts left in his career."
