Same opponent, same outcome for Anabel Ortiz in her rematch against Debora Rengifo.
Ortiz won a 10 round unanimous decision over Rengifo Saturday night at the Domo Sindicato de Trabajadores IMSS in Tlalpan, a suburb of Mexico City.
Saturday's fight was a rematch of Ortiz's unanimous decision win over the Venezuela fighter on Oct. 15 of 2016. The fight on Saturday was almost a carbon-copy of the first fight, as the shorter Ortiz was the more-effective fighter throughout the fight.
Rengifo (10-5-1, 5 knockouts) had her moments initiating exchanges, but Ortiz held her ground, countering with multiple combinations to the head. Many punches would land on Rengifo's shoulders, but Ortiz did land due to the high volume of punches she landed.
Scores were 100-90, 99-91, and 98-92 in favor of Ortiz, who resides in Mexico City and improves to 27-3, 4 KOs.
Ortiz holds the WBA Female strawweight title, which was not on the line.
In the co-feature, lightweight contender Carlos Diaz won by knockout when Luis Montano did not answer the 10th and final round.
Diaz (26-0, 13 KOs), who resides in the boxing hotbed of Guadalajara, had not fought Oct. 14, when he scored a sixth round knockout victory over Emanuel Lopez.
In Saturday's clash with Montano, Diaz slowly broke Montano down, ripping combinations to the head and hooks to the body. As the bout progressed, Montano's face showed bruising and was bleeding from the nose.
Diaz was warned multiple times in round seven for landing punches below Montano's belt-line. It was a moot point after the end of the ninth round, when Montano remained on his stool and did not answer the bell to start the 10th round.
Montano (13-7, 6 KOs), who resides in Mexico City, entered the bout having won six of his previous seven bouts.
