According to the Manchester Evening News, welterweight Craig Watson (18-3, 8KOs) is targeting a rematch with European welterweight champion Matthew Hatton (40-4-2, 15KOs). Watson won a clear twelve round decision over Hatton in 2008. It was the last time Hatton was defeated. Since the April 2009 defeat, he won seven fights in a row, including a recent decision over former champion Yuriy Nuzhnenko. Hatton though, wants a shot at WBA champion Vyacheslav Senchenko.
“They are talking about him fighting for world titles and he’s not even the best welterweight in Manchester, I think I am,” said Watson. “I’ve beaten some really good lads and I really deserve a shot at something. It’s disheartening when watching someone like Matt overtake me.”
Watson is promoted by Matthew's older brother, Ricky Hatton. If Watson can't get a shot at Matthew, he would like a rematch with John O'Donnell, but the Hatton fight is priority number one.
“I would like another shot at John O’Donnell,” he said. “I’d like Daniele Petrucci over here after losing to him Italy. I want that if I win the European against Matthew.”
