Swiss watch company Hublot is aiming to raise a million of dollars by creating a dozen watches which the company will auction for retired WBC fighters.
In doing so, it’ll create a new arm of the WBC pension fund.
Hublot President Jean Claude Biver made this announcement at a event in Mexico City which drew a galaxy of boxers including Julio Cesar Chavez, Lennox Lewis, Pipino Cuevas, Carlos Zarate, Daniel Zaragoza, Reuban El Puas Olivares, Chucho Castillo, Marco Antonio Barrera, Jhonny Gonzalez and Fernando Cochulito Montiel.
Hublot has created specially designed personalized watches for: Lewis and Chavez who received theirs’ at the event, Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, George Foreman, Marvellous Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Oscar De La Hoya, Jeff Fenech, Evander Holyfield and Larry Holmes.
Twelve more in this style will then go on the auction block.
Jean Claude Biver said of the retired boxers in need: “You who’ve maintained the glory and given us so many dreams, now that your careers have finished we haven’t forgotten you. We will try to make that end of your careers as sweet as possible.”
