It appears that a proposed bout between IBF/WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe and Contender star Peter Manfredo, Jr. is not a done deal.
Promoter Frank Warren told Ant Evans of Eurosport that a deal has not been reached for the fight. Manfredo's trainer Freddie Roach has stated to more than one media outlet that a deal had been reached for the fight, Warren says that is not only false, but harmful to the negotiations. There are ongoing talks between both sides to make the fight, and Warren is hopeful that a deal can be reached.
"I'm very happy at the apparent excitement and enthusiasm over a potential Calzaghe vs Manfredo fight, but Freddie Roach's comments that there is a signed deal for Calzaghe to fight Peter Manfredo Jr. are completely wrong and harmful to the negotiations on both sides. Not only is there no signed deal, there is nothing to sign at this point," Warren said.
