Promoter Frank Warren feels WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan is "mad" to consider a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the near future. He says Khan needs to focus on cleaning out the junior welterweight division before considering a fight with Mayweather. Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Khan in the United States, are very interested in matching Khan against Mayweather in 2011.
“He doesn’t want Mayweather,” said Warren to the Manchester Evening News. ”He’s got to go up in weight to fight Mayweather – it’s madness. It’s great talk and keeps your name in the frame, but not yet. He needs to be patient. He needs to clean up the division first of all.”
Khan is likely going to fight in England on an April date. A possible opponent being mentioned is Zab Judah. He would return for his second fight of the year in July. The second opponent would come in July and that would likely be the January winner of the Devon Alexander-Tim Bradley 140-pound unification.
