Frank Warren, who along with Top Rank is the promoter of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, has responded to some recent statements that were made by rival promoter Eddie Hearn, who works with heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte.
Hearn believes his client should keep a close eye on the brewing situation involving Fury and UKAD [UK Anti-Doping].
As previously reported, The Daily Mail first broke a story where a farmer claims to have submitted false witness statements, in exchange for £25,000, with respect to Fury's legal battle with UK drug testing organization
In early 2015, Fury failed a UKAD issued drug test. It was widely reported that Fury's test result was directly connected to the consumption of wild boar meat.
The farmer, Martin Carefoot, claims to have signed two witness statements where he falsely claimed to have provided the boar meat in question. Carefoot now states that he never kept wild boar or boar meat in general, and only claimed that information after a Fury team member allegedly approached him with the promise of money.
It has not been confirmed how UKAD is handling the information - or if they plan to conduct some sort of investigation.
Whyte holds the WBC's interim-title. If Fury is removed of his status for any reason, Whyte could very well become the full WBC world champion.
"As I understand, it's going to be looked into by UKAD," Hearn told Sky Sports. "I guess the truth will come out in the wash.
"As I understand it, the key witness in the case has come out and effectively changed his statements of what happened. I'll let them deal with that. If I'm Dillian Whyte right now, I'm looking at that situation, knowing that if there is an issue with Tyson Fury as world champion, I become the WBC heavyweight world champion, because right now, he was suspended while an investigation was taking place. It's going to be interesting to see how that plays out."
Warren believes Hearn is attempting to get Whyte an easy path to a world title.
According to a WBC order, Whyte must receive a shot at their world title by February 2021.
"This week Eddie Hearn has come out and said Whyte will be 'looking' at Tyson Fury's situation. It comes after outrageous allegations were made against the current WBC champion in a newspaper interview last weekend," Warren told Daily Star.
"As I said then, I don't expect UK Anti-Doping to take the matter any further. But what is Hearn's game coming out with those comments? Is he trying to steal the title for Whyte? Why didn't Hearn get his man a shot at the belt while he was in the No.1 position for so long? Is he now trying to get Whyte an easy shot at the title? That's what happened for Anthony Joshua who picked up the IBF title by beating Charles Martin instead of having to beat the real best in the division."
