The subject of Joe Calzaghe being the best fighter in British history was discussed with his promoter Frank Warren, who believes that Calzaghe is well on his way to achieving such status.
The UK Mirror brought up the subject of whether or not Calzaghe was better than Prince Naseem Hamed, one of the few British fighters to cross-over to American soil and become popular in both countries. Regardless of Hamed's accomplishments, Warren felt that because Naseem was unable to stay consistent, Calzaghe is the much better fighter.
"He's better than Naz because Naz wasn't consistent. You can make excuses that he took his eye off the ball, but Joe hasn't. And Joe's still going at 34, whereas all those other guys were out of it in their 20s. He deserves huge credit for what he's achieved," Warren said.
And, Warren went on to state that Calzaghe would have beat the best Britain had to offer in terms of super middleweight greats.
"Eubank, Benn, Collins - and whoever else you want to mention - he would have beaten them all. He was due to fight Steve Collins only for Steve to pull out the week before the fight. He fought Chris Eubank instead, which was a big jump up in class for him, and won to begin his reign as world champion."
