There has been no progress in the Super Six venue dispute between promoters Gary Shaw and Dan Goossen. Their boxers, Andre Ward (21-0, 13KOs) and Andre Dirrell (19-1, 13KOs), are set to fight in third stage of the Super Six tournament on the tentative date of September 25.
The two promoters disagreed on the fight location during last Tuesday's Super Six promoters meeting in New York. Goossen wants the fight to take place in Ward's hometown of Oakland, and Shaw wants the fight to take place in Dirrell's hometown of Detroit, Michigan.
When reached for comment on Thursday, Shaw told BoxingScene.com he was not going to change his mind. Ward's first Super Six bout, against Mikkel Kessler, took place in Oakland, and his second fight, scheduled for June 19 against Allan Green, also takes place in Oakland. Shaw doesn't think it's fair, for the other fighters involved, if Ward gets the homefield advantage in all three of his Super Six bouts.
"I won't agree to that. I can guarantee you one thing, you will not see Andre Dirrell fighting in Oakland," Shaw told BoxingScene.com.
Goossen told BoxingScene earlier in the week that he was willing to compromise - if the money was right. If the right financial offer is made, Goossen is willing to make the fight in Michigan or another venue outside of Oakland.
