MATTHYSSE is a traditional name in Argentinean boxing. Right now, two of them are not only champions, but also rising stars. Last Saturday they shared a show at Santa Fe. Walter “El Terrible” Matthysse kayoed Chilean Juan Carlos Alderete in one round, retaining his welterweight Latino WBO championship. Lucas Martin Matthysse kayoed in 2 - Victor Ríos, obtaining the Latino WBO welter junior, which was vacant. Both brothers are products of a family tradition. Their father, Mario, was a pro boxer and usually he works in the gym with their kids. And their mother is boxer too. And we must include a couple of uncles…

WALTER has born in Esperanza, Santa Fe, the same province of Carlos Baldomir and Carlos Monzón. But he lives in Trelew, Chubut, in the Patagonia. He has two kids, Walter Ezequiel and Nerina. And a pro record of 25 (24)-0-0 with one no-decision. Managed by Mario Arano, Walter Matthysse made his USA pro debut last December 8, kayoing in one Xavier Toliver in San Diego for the Fedecentro belt. By now, he is part of the Golden Boy Team and is planning a new fight at States next May in front of Grover Wiley.

LUCAS was born in Trelew (September 27, 1982), and has 12 professional bouts to his credit with 11 KOs. He won 5 bouts in the first round, 3 in the second and 4 in the third. He had an important career as amateur and, of course, this is his first main event and his first belt. Víctor “Kojak” Ríos, who is now 9-6-0, 2 ND was very easy for Lucas, who connected a tremendous left hook to the body “a la” Julio Cesar Chavez.

WALTER DARIO, born on August 29, 1978, had an easy victory over Chilean champion Juan Carlos Alderete (28-4-1, 18 KO) who lasted less than 3 minutes. On the same card, Wilfredo Vilches (43-7-3-1 ND, 25 KO) defeated in 12 Juan Alberto Godoy (17-8-1, 5 KO): one judge gave draw in 114, other voted 117-116 for Vilches and the third scored 117-114 ½ for Vilches. For us, Vilches was the winner by 2 points.

THE MATTHYSSES are on the road. Walter looking for a second fight in USA, and Lucas beginning his first reign. Don’t forget their names.
