BoxingScene caught up with NABC middleweight champion, Felix "Tito" Trinidad and threw several questions to the comeback kid from Puerto Rico. Trinidad gave his thoughts on the fight with Ricardo Mayorga and some possible future matchups, including possible rematches with Bernard Hopkins and Oscar De La Hoya.
BoxingScene: Tito, welcome back. You seemed a bit tenative in the first round of your fight with Ricardo Mayorga. Was it ring rust, a feeling out process or were you waiting to see what Ricardo would do?
Trinidad: There was no rust, I was waiting for openings to land my punches. I knew that he would come at me and throw wild punches. I took his punches, but when I started to land my punches he couldnt take them.
BoxingScene: Mayorga landed a few good punches on you. Were you ever hurt by any of Mayorga's punches and did he ever stun you in the fight?
Trinidad: No, he throws very hard punches, but I was never hurt. I took everything he had, I took his power and once I showed him my power......I knew the fight would be over.
BoxingScene: Were you surprised that you hit him clean with so many shots and he just kept on coming?
Trinidad: I was surprised, but I knew he couldnt take hard punches all night. I knew it was only a matter of time before the fight was over. He showed a lot of heart, but I knew that he was a tough opponent. I wanted a tough opponent for my return to Boxing and to prove that I am still one of the best fighters in the world.
BoxingScene: What is your next move? The two fighters people want to see you go up against are Bernard Hopkins and Oscar De La Hoya, are you looking to fight either one of these guys?
Trinidad: I want fights with both of them, but if I cant get them there are other opponents that I could fight. I will sit down with my promoter Don King and we will see who we want to fight next. My next fight will be another big fight because I only came back to Boxing for the big fights.
BoxingScene: When could we expect to see you in the ring again?
Trinidad: I wont know until I sit down with my promoter Don King. I want to fight again soon. I dont want to waste time.
