According to the Kiev Post, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has launched a legal protest against Kiev Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky for claiming that he tried to get land from the mayor for a boxing club. Klitschko is the leader of the eponymous bloc on the Kiev City Council in Ukraine. The two were involved in a heated verbal battle on Friday. Klitschko was critical of the mayor, who shot back that Klitschko had never approached him on any issues other than trying to get land for his own purposes.
Klitschko's rep sent a quote to the paper that said "I've sued a lying mayor [for misleading reports]. The protest was filed at Shevchenkivsky District Court in Kiev.
The protest reads:
"Over the entire period of his political activity, Vitali Klitschko has never given cause for doubt about his honesty and well-doing. Negative claims made by Chernovetsky as the Kiev City mayor don't represent the facts and defame the good name of a famous person and an honest politician."
Klitschko tried to become the mayor of Kiev last year. He came in third when the votes were counted. He faces another legal battle, but this one in his boxing career. He is trying to arbitrate with the WBC to avoid a mandatory fight with Oleg Maskaev. He would rather face Chris Arreola.
