Bernd Bonte, manager of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, has said the mandatory defense against Juan Carlos Gomez is almost finalized and will likely happen on March 21 in Hamburg or Stuttgart, Germany. The WBC ordered purse bid is scheduled to happen in the next few days, but the deal will probably be complete before that.
"There are still details to clarify but it now looks as though the fight will happen," Bonte said to Setanta Sports.
David Haye was said to be Klitschko's next opponent after the two sides reached an agreement in December. The news of Gomez getting his shot first may push back Haye's possible fight with Vitali beyond the proposed June date.
