Contrary to some of the inaccurate reports floating around, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko said there has been some progress in the last few days with making a fight in October against ex-champion Nikolai Valuev. The two heavyweights exchanged insults in the press earlier this week. Klitschko said if the Valuev fight is not signed soon, Shannon Briggs could become a possible option.

"The contract to fight Valuev has not been signed as of yet, but recently Nicholas has made some effort to ensure that my meeting with him in the ring will actually take place," Klitschko told Bleek. "I guess the specifics of this matter will be further discussed in the next few days."

Younger brother Wladimir Klitschko warned Valuev to make up his mind very soon or the money may get less. The original offer was $2.5 million dollars. Valuev ruled it out and the offer dropped to $1.5 million.

"They already went from $2.5 to $1.5 million. If they continue to wait it will drop by another $500,000 and go to $1 million and then drop again to $500,000," Wladimir said.
