Taking a page out of the training manual of Rocky 4, WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is having a movie style training camp in preparation for his March 21 bout with mandatory contender Juan Carlos Gomez. The fight takes place at Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart, Germany
Klitschko is chopping wood, taking longs runs in the snow, taking runs while hoisting a large log on his shoulders and pushing a sled around like a horse, with his trainer sitting on it.
"Running with a trunk wood on me is incredibly demanding. Then I got my trainer back home by pulling the sleigh. He didn’t need a whip. We have done a few times. But then my clothes were totally soaked and always iced. The risk of catching a common cold was too high at the end," Klitschko told Bild.
Klitschko is also sparring hard with top contender Tony Thompson and former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd. Klitschko considers both of them to be better fighters than Gomez.
"Everything is going according to plan. These are the best southpaws in the world. Better than Gomez. He will not have a chance," Klitschko said.
