Following David Haye's impressive fifth round stoppage of Monte Barrett at the O2 Arena in Greenwich, London, the Haymaker went face to face with WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, who was sitting at ringside and watching the contest. The two fighters made it very clear - they both want to fight next year.
"The heavyweight division needs a big name, and his name brings more interest to boxing, especially the heavyweight divison," Klitschko said. "I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I hope by the summer of next year, we get a big stadium in London or in Germany. It will be a huge fight for both countries. I was very impressed with the fight. Next year it will be a great fight with Klitschko and Hayemaker. David was the best cruiserweight, for a long time I was the best heavyweight. Let's see who is better."
Right now, it's not clear which Klitschko will fight Haye first - Vitali or his younger brother Wladimir, who holds the IBF/WBO heavyweight titles.
"I dont mind if it's Wladimir or Vitali. I want to fight the best. I was in there against a top guy. I dispatched him in good style. I want to be the heavyweight champion of the world and to do that I need to beat one of the kltshcko brothers. He's a giant but I think I can slay the giant," Haye said.
Vitali has to first fight his mandatory, Juan Carlos Gomez and Wladimir has to face Hasim Rahman on December 13 in Germany.
"Let's see [what happens], my brother has to defend his title against Hasim Rhaman and I have to make one fight against Juan Carlos Gomez," Klitschko said as he pointed to Haye and said "next year buddy."
