(AP) ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Virgil Hill became a champion again Friday night.

The 42-year-old earned the fifth world title of his career with a unanimous decision over Russia's Valery Brudov.

The three judges all had Hill winning the 12-round match 118-110 to earn the World Boxing Association cruiserweight title.

"I waited almost two years to get this opportunity and it feels great," said Hill, who ended a 20-month layoff. "Now I'd like to fight once more and then walk away on my own terms."

Hill dominated the fight from the outset behind a crisp left jab, timely combinations and steady movement that belied his age.

Hill, a silver medalist in the 1984 Summer Olympics, was appearing in his 28th world title bout and used that experience to his advantage.

Brudov (30-1), who was fighting in the United States for the first time, never mounted a serious threat.

He caught Hill with a half-dozen right hands in the sixth round that opened a cut on Hill's left eyelid, but Hill's longtime trainer and cutman, Mike Hall, controlled the bleeding between rounds.

"I'm disappointed," Brudov said through an interpreter. "I couldn't catch him. I was shocked he moved so well for a 42-year-old guy. His experience showed."

The bout originally was set for last summer in St. Louis but was canceled because of a lack of ticket sales.

Hill hadn't fought since losing the WBA cruiserweight belt to Jean-Marc Mormeck in May 2004.

The WBA cruiserweight title was vacant because Mormeck was elevated to super champion status after winning a unification bout. Brudov was the top-ranked challenger and Hill was No. 2.
