Brian Viloria, nicknamed the "Hawaiian Punch" who was born in Hawaii of Filipino parents is scheduled to fight newly-crowned WBC light flyweight champion Eric Ortiz in a championship bout sometime in June or July .

Viloria told Manila Standard Today while he was in Las Vegas for the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales epic that he was preparing hard for the title shot after "deciding to move down from flyweight to light fly" which was comfortable for him. Viloria is rated No. 2 flyweight by the WBC whose president Jose Sulaiman has announced that Viloria will get the title shot at Ortiz.

The 24 year old Viloria is undefeated with a professional record of 16-0 with 10 knockouts. He is coming off a seventh round KO win over Angel Priolo last December 16 while Ortiz who is 27 has a record of 24-4-1 with 16 KO's and won the vacant title with a seventh round TKO over Jose Antonio Aguirre last March 11. Ortiz had earlier scored a fifth round technical decision over Filipino Wyndel Janiola in an IBF light flyweight eliminator last September 4. Ortiz is handled by Fernando Beltran, the Mexican promoter who handles Erik Morales.

Viloria looked impressive while working out at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach and his vicious body are likely to give Ortiz problems. Viloria told Manila Standard Today he was in good shape and looking forward to the title fight. Viloria won the WBC Youth flyweight crown with a fifth round TKO over Francisco Soto on June 18, 2002 and the vacant NABF title with a unanimous decision over Juan Javier Lagos on August 30, 2002.
