BoxingScene.com has heard that a doubleheader may potentially land on HBO on December 12. Discussed at the moment is the return of junior welterweight Victor Ortiz. Ortiz would return for the first time since June's six-round TKO loss to WBA interim-champion Marcos Maidana. The co-feature would have Robert Guerrero making the first defense of the IBF super featherweight title he won from Malcolm Klassen in August. No word on the opponents but I know Guerrero would love a unification fight with WBC champion Humberto Soto.
That's the good news.
The bad news is the conflict with Showtime's doubleheader, also on December 12, featuring Timothy Bradley vs. Lamont Peterson and Vic Darchinyan vs. Tomas Rojas. Showtime's card was moved from December 5 to December 12 to avoid the conflict with HBO's event featuring Kelly Pavlik vs. Paul Williams. Now that HBO is planning a card on December 12, fans will be forced to choose between the competing two shows which is never good for the sport.
