There is talk of a HBO televised doubleheader in the works with rising prospects James Kirkland and Victor Ortiz being in showcased in separate contests. The doubleheader, promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, is being rumored to land in the month of March.
Kirkland (24-0, 21KOs), a rising junior middleweight, fought three times in 2008. Two of those fights were above the weight at 157-pounds, but he appears to be focused on staying at 154. He stopped all three opponents, Eromolese Albert, Brian Vera and Ricardo Cortes.
Ortiz (23-1, 18KOs), despite going through managerial and promotional issues, managed to also fight three times in 2008. The rising junior welterweight, who may head to 147 in the near future, stopped Dairo Esalas, Roberto Arrieta and Jeffrey Resto.
