Victor Ortiz hasn't been seen in the ring since December 13th, 2014, when he stopped Manuel Perez in three rounds at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on the Amir Khan-Devon Alexander undercard. It appears that almost a full year later he will be making his return.
"Yes sir, I do concur to that," said Ortiz, on Thursday afternoon. "I will be fighting at 147. I believe it's on the Keith Thurman-Shawn Porter undercard."
Ortiz (30-5-2, 23 KO's) has been sidelined with an injury near his left hand.
"It broke in four places on my left wrist with two metal pins [inserted]. I was in a cast for thirteen weeks and had orders from the doctor to not hit [anything] three-to-six months and that was not fun," said Ortiz, who's still not sure who his dance partner will be on December 12th.
"There's quite a bit of names I'd like to actually fight against but obviously I've got to get back on the train. I just cant get back into something big. I was looking forward to fighting Josesito Lopez but apparently that's not looking to promising so at this point in time I'm not too sure. I'll leave it in my management's hands and we'll take it step-by-step once again."
Lopez stopped Ortiz in an entertaining affair back in June of 2012 at the Staples Center. Both Ortiz and Lopez are now advised by Al Haymon, so there's a very good possibility that this rematch happens in the near future. No matter what, Ortiz believes his best boxing is still in front of him.
"I'll be champ again, there's no doubt about that," he insists. "I mean, there are guys my age that are gun-shy, guys my age that are shot. I don't seem to have any of these symptoms, thankfully. I can still pull the trigger. I'm 28 years old, I'm not old. I've only fought one time in my prime. So I'm good, I'm fine."
