MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Former champion Victor Ortiz (30-5-2, 23KOs) finally snapped a three fight losing streak with a third round knockout of Manny Perez (21-11-1 4KOs). Ortiz was tentative early in the first but soon started letting his hands go and unloaded with power by end of the first bell. In the third, Ortiz clocked Perez with a hard straight bomb that decked him down against the ropes. He made it up on unsteady legs and the fight was waved off by the referee.
Welterweight contender Yoshihiro Kamegai (25-2-1, 23KOs) returned for the first time since the decision loss to Robert Guerrero earlier this year and demolished Oscar Godoy (13-4, 6KOs) in a fight which took place at 151-pounds. Kamegai dropped Godoy twice in the second and finished him off in the fourth for the full count after getting off with a barrage of punches.
Former light heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov (15-2, 10KOs), in his first fight since losing a decision to Bernard Hopkins, made his cruiserweight debut with a fifth round technical knockout of Bobby Thomas Jr. (14-3-1, 9KOs). Shumenov broke him down round after round and Thomas was unable to come out for the sixth round.
