BoxingScene.com was told that WBC/WBA/IBF super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (32-2-1, 26KOs) is very interested in fighting WBO super flyweight champion Jose Lopez (39-7, 32KOs). The IBF wants Darchinyan to defend against undefeated Simphiwe Nongqayi of South Africa.
Last Saturday, Darchinyan move up to bantamweight and lost a tough twelve round decision to IBF champion Joseph Agbeko. Lopez is a tough fighter, a lot more experience than Nongqayi and more capable of doing damage. Lopez was last beaten by Fernando Montiel in January 2001. He decked Montiel in the ninth round of that fight. Since the Montiel defeat, Lopez has gone without a loss in 16 ring appearances.
