IBF super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (30-1-1, 24 KOs) has vowed to knock Cristian Mijares (36-3-2, 15 KOs) out. Talks are ongoing for a unification bout between Darchinyan and Mijares, who holds the WBC/WBA titles.

The promoters Gary Shaw [for Darchinyan] and Lou DiBella [for Mijares] are having a tough time locking down a date with a US network. Showtime is interested in the fight, for some reason HBO is not. With the way things are going, both fighters will probably see action via interim bouts before a unification fight in 2009.

Darchinyan says that after he knocks out Mijares, he wants to stage a rematch with IBF flyweight champ Nonito Donaire. Donaires knocked out Darchinyan in five-rounds in 2007, the first and only loss of the Aussie puncher's career.

"Mijares is a good boxer. He beat Jorge Arce who I was chasing," Darchinyan told Sports Nut. "But my power is back and I am boxing better than ever. I will knock out Mijares and then I want a rematch with Donaire. I will KO him, too."
