Sources close to the situation have informed BoxingScene.com that talks are ongoing to match IBF junior middleweight champion Verno Phillips (42-10, 21KOs) against undefeated prospect Ronald Hearns (19-0, 15KOs), son of legendary former champion Thomas Hearns. The fight would take place in the fall.
Talks were previously held for Phillips to defend against John Duddy, who planned to move down in weight for the fight. The word I hear is that Duddy's camp was not willing to agree to future options if their fighter won.
A possible co-feature being discussed would match Glen Johnson against Shaun George. George is coming off his crushing knockout of former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd.
