Rising welterweight prospect Vergil Ortiz (14-0) has had a big 2019, going 3-0 with all of his victories coming by way of knockouts. According to our sources, he will return to the ring on December 13th. Golden Boy Promotions is in the process of finalizing his opponent. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Steve Kim.
BoxingScene.com has also been advised that the other fight will take place at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California and headline a card that will be streamed live by DAZN.
Ortiz started off his 2019 campaign by stopping Jesus Barrayan in 5 rounds in Houston, Texas. He moved up to the welterweight division in his next fight and demolished former interim title holder Mauricio Herrera in 3 rounds on the Canelo Alvarez-Danny Jacobs undercard. In his most recent fight against his toughest opponent to date, Ortiz knocked out Antonio Orozco in 6 rounds.
The 21-year-old is regarded my most experts as one of the top prospects in the sport. The Dallas resident has already built a big local following and now will look to continue to expand his fan base in Southern California. This will be Ortiz’s 5th fight at the Fantasy Springs Casino.
