On February 27th at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, undefeated lightweight Felix Verdejo will be co-headlining an HBO card with WBO super lightweight belt-holder, Terence Crawford. 2016 will be a pivotal year for Verdejo who will transition from being a prospect to a bona-fide young contender.
Sources have told BoxingScene.com that undefeated Brazilian William Silva is in the running to face the young Puerto Rican star. The 28-year old Silva has a record of 22-0 (13 KO's) and he last fought on July 25th at the Florentine Gardens in Hollywood, California, where he scored a fifth round stoppage of Adam Mate.
In his last outing Verdejo (19-0, 14 KO's) knocked out Josenilson Dos Santos in two rounds in front of a packed house at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan.
The 2012 representative of the Puerto Rican Olympic team notched three victories in 2015 as he was beset by injuries to his left hand that limited his activity throughout the year. The hand became a real issue during, and after, his June decision victory over Ivan Najera, which also took place at MSG's Theater.
