A possble clash between super bantamweights Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. (17-0-1, 14KOs) and Marvin Sonsona (14-0-1, 12KOs) is in jeopardy. There is a contract on the table for Vazquez to face Sonsona on February 20 in Manila, Philippines.

Juan Manuel Lopez recently vacated his WBO super bantamweight title in order to make a move to featherweight. It was believed that the WBO would approve a Sonsona vs. Vazquez bout for the vacant title. Now there is some serious doubt. Because Sonsona was held to a draw in last Saturday's bout with Alejandro Hernandez, the WBO may refuse to sanction the fight for the vacant title.

Vazquez's promoter Félix “Tutico” Zabal will only accept the Sonsona bout if the WBO title is at stake - or else they will sit on their ranking and await a decision from the WBO as to who their opponent will be for the vacant title.

"We have a contract to fight Sosona on February 20 for the title at 122 pounds. As Sosona went to a draw in his last fight, we do not know what will happen. If it won't be for the title, the fight does not interest us," Zabala told Primera Hora. "What we want is for Wilfredo to fight for a championship."
