Former champion Daniel Zaragoza has returned to the big leagues of boxing for the first time since his 1997 loss to Erik Morales. As previously reported some time ago, Rafael Marquez hired Zaragoza as his new trainer. Zaragoza replaces the legendary Nacho Beristain. Marquez is being prepared for his fourth meeting with Israel Vazquez, set for May 22 in Los Angeles.
Zaragoza is really confident about Marquez's chances to win the fourth meeting. He says Marquez has better boxing skills than Vazquez. Marquez stopped Vazquez in the first fight. Vazquez got revenge with a stoppage in the rematch. The third brutal fight saw Vazquez grab a twelfth round knockdown to win a razor-thin decision.
"We started very lively with our training for this new challenge in the career of Rafael and mine, now as a trainer. Both fighters are coming into this fight with a heavy load of inactivity, so you have to be careful not to over train," Zaragoza told The Record .
"A lot of people tell me that Rafael is the favorite here, but in reality he gets better. Both of them are known for hard punches, but Rafael is more technical and that's what can bring you the win."
Zaragoza has worked with a lot of amateurs in Mexico and views this fight as a personal challenge to show his skills as a trainer in the pro ranks. He is taking it very seriously and wants to win big.
"It's a personal challenge, but only time will tell me where I'm at because I have a lot of experience to share," Zaragoza said.
