The former WBO super bantamweight champion, Wilfredo 'Papito' Vázquez, will rest for one month and then start training gradually with the intention of return in a ten round fight and then begin looking for a title bout at 122 pounds in 2012 - without ruling out a possible rematch with his recent conqueror, Jorge 'Travieso' Arce, as announced by his coach and father Wilfredo 'Wi' Vazquez Sr.
"Those are the plans and we are waiting to hear from Paco Valcárcel, the president of the WBO. But there is no rush [for another title shot]. Papito is young and he can wait one more year. He has no problems making that weight. He learned his lesson and he is a true champion. This is a learning process for him," he said.
On the other hand, regarding the injury to his eyes, Vazquez Sr. said the substance was the result of the hair gel used by Arce. In the tweflth round, Arce punished Vazquez against the ropes until the towel was thrown in.
"He fought for twelve rounds without being able to see. He will learn from this and be a better boxer in the future," he said.
