Two time Iraq war veteran Sammy "The Who Can Mexican" Vasquez (18-0) will put his perfect record on the line when he faces the once beaten Wale "Lucky Boy" Omotoso on Sunday at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight will be aired on CBS and will serve as the chief support to the Rances Barthelemy-Antonio DeMarco main event.
The 29-year-old Vasquez last fought in February when he won a dominating unanimous decision over Emmanuel Lartey. He said that he had a great training camp for this fight and expects another great performance.
"I had a great training camp. It was long and tough but I am ready to go. I thought I was going to fight sooner but that's the way it goes sometimes in boxing. It's been great," said Vasquez.
While Vasquez respects Omotoso - he feels that he has the physical and mental advantages over his opponent. He thinks that the fact that Omotoso has already suffered a defeat could play a role in the fight.
"The key is he already lost. He already smelled defeat so I know he is going to come in tough. I don't think he is as fast as me. I don't think he hits as hard as me but I know he is a good fighter. He beat the guys he was supposed to and I know that it will be a tough fight but I will do what I need to do win," Vasquez told BoxingScene.com.
