WBA 'regular' junior welterweight champion Jessie Vargas (26-0, 9KOs) is already getting himself ready for a potential fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in the first half of 2015.
Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who promotes both Pacquiao and Vargas, is trying to make a fight between the Filipino star and Floyd Mayweather Jr. According to Vargas, Top Rank assured him of being a "Plan B" possibility to face Pacquiao.
In the event he gets selected for Pacquiao, Vargas' trainer is already working up a strategy for the fight. Vargas is currently trained by former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr.
"Roy Jones Jr. is working on a gameplan for Manny Pacquiao just in case we do get the opportunity. He’s already working on it and I believe that he’ll come up with a great gameplan. If you leave it up to Roy Jones Jr, you’re leaving it up to one of the greatest fighters up there. Having him in a corner, he’s coming up with a gameplan and I’ll be sure to execute it if the fight happens. We have high hopes for it and we hope it does happen," Vargas said to On The Ropes Boxing Radio .
