Last week former two-division champion Jessie Vargas (28-2) held a media day at the Mayweather Boxing Club in advance of his April 21st showdown against Adrien Broner (33-3).

The fight takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and will headline a Showtime tripleheader.

Broner has three losses on his record and has faced big punchers like Marcos Maidana and Mikey Garcia but has never been stopped.

Vargas is confident that he can do what the others couldn’t.

"I actually believe that if I find the right spot, the right moment and the right punch and land right on the chin that he will go down. I think there is a big possibility that he will go down but I am focused to fight a 12 round fight whether it is by knockout or decision I am coming out with the victory," said Vargas.

He believes he will come out with the victory because he has the right mindset and doesn’t try to cut corners in training camp.

"I have better ethic. I know what I want. I am focused and determined and I have prepared myself for victory and have stayed away from any type of distractions. The focus I have plus the strength and the speed but the biggest key I would say is the mental focus and this man right here," Vargas told BoxingScene.com.

IN OTHER NEWS: BoxingScene.com has been advised that featherweight prospect Luis “Popeye” Lebron (10-0-1) will be fighting in Colombia for the WBO-NABO featherweight title on April 27th against local prospect Luis Ruiz (9-1). The title was vacated by Christopher “Pitufo” Diaz when he moved to the super featherweight division last year.

Lebron has been sparring with former title challenger Jayson Velez for the bout that is scheduled for 10 rounds.

Popeye’s manager New Face of Boxing also revealed that they have joined forces in a co-managerial capacity with Spartan Boxing Management and that the 24-year-old Puerto Rican is now a promotional free agent after his previous promoter Hard Hitting Promotions breached their contract.

Lebron was last in action on March 17th when he stopped Alan Guzman in two rounds in the Dominican Republic.
