On Thursday my colleague Mike Coppinger of BoxingScene.com broke the news that Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank Promotions, is looking to put on a junior middleweight clash between unbeaten Vanes Martirosyan and all-action Pawel Wolak. The fight would take place on December 3rd underneath the rematch between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Martirosyan is infamous for calling out some of the biggest names at 154 pounds and many had been hoping to see him in the ring with rugged bruiser Alfredo Angulo, who returned to the ring following a year-plus hiatus this past Saturday in Mexico by stopping helpless Joseph Gomez in one round.

While Wolak isn’t the dream fight that the 25-year old Martirosyan has been craving, he concedes it’s a fair enough bout at this point.

“I’ve been waiting to see what’s going on,” Martirosyan stated. “I think it’s a good fight for me. Pawel Wolak is tough. If they think it’s the best fight out there for me, then I’m OK with it.”

Wolak is coming off of a fight-of-the-year type of affair against Delvin Rodriguez that ended in a majority draw last month and he always comes to fight. He was tagged often by Rodriguez, eventually suffering a huge welt above his right eye, and Martirosyan doesn’t seem to have any qualms about dealing with such pressure.

“I would love it. If he fights me like that he’s getting destroyed. He gets hit too much. I mean, if Delvin Rodriguez could do that to him, imagine what my punches will do to him.”
