Bas Van Duivenbode passed away Thursday - Sep 24 - at the age of 75 in the Netherlands. Van Duivenbode fought professionally from 1961 through 72 compiling a record of 22-16-5. The ledger may look so-so but Van Duivenbode fought often on the road, fighting at light heavyweight and heavyweight taking on the likes of Piero del Papa, Jose Manuel Ibar Urtain, Rudi Lubbers and Pekka Kokkonen.
As an amateur Bas (his full name was Bastian Adrianus) represented the Netherlands in the 1960 Olympics in Rome.
After his career was over Van Duivenbode ran a well known pool cafe in Amsterdam and reportedly did very well. In a Boxing News classic “Where are they Now” from 1997 it says that Bas “drives a Mercedes 250 and owns a horse which competes in trotting races”.
