Former junior middleweight champion Roman Karmazin tried to warn his countryman, Nikolai Valuev, to get away from co-promoter Don King, but the seven-foot Russian giant didn't listen to his advice. Valuev is co-promoted by King and Sauerland Event.

"I couldn't help him. At the time, he didn't listen to me. Everyone is free to do what they want. I've dealt with them, it's a shame he got involved with those people," Karmazin told Russia 2 TV.

Karmazin blames King for the failed negotiations to make a fight with WBC champion Vitali Klitschko. The two sides spoke for several weeks. They were unable to reach a deal on the money and Klitschko took a fight with Albert Sosnowski for May 29.

"The situation there solved nothing. It's going to take a long time for that fight to take place because the promoters were looking in different directions. Vitali Klitschko could not agree with Don King. From my own experience, I know what it's like to deal with these people," Karmazin said.
