HOLLYWOOD, Florida -- Juan Urango won by unanimous decision over Australia's Naoufel Ben Rabah on Friday to capture the vacant IBF light welterweight championship.

Colombian-born Urango (17-0-1) won the 12-round fight on all three cards -- 116-112, 115-113 and 117-111 -- but many of his local fans at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino even booed as the decision was read, clearly thinking Ben Rabah won the bout.

Ben Rabah landed about one-third of his punches, compared to about a 17 percent connection rate by Urango. Ben Rabah -- an Olympian for his native Tunisia before moving to Australia -- simply smiled and shook his head as he left the ring afterward.

Ben Rabah, who entered as the No. 1 contender for the title vacated by Ricky Hatton, fell to 24-2 after fighting through a hand injury suffered midway through the bout. There was no immediate word on the severity of the injury.

It was the first fight in 10 months for Urango, who was recovering from hand surgery. His last bout was Aug. 26, a seventh-round TKO over Andre Eason that allowed him to keep his WBC Latin American championship.
